Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that enactment of the Law on Access to the Public Information will make politicians more responsible.
V.Lytvyn made the foregoing statement in the interview to Rada television channel.
"I expect this Law to make Ukrainian politics and politicians more open and responsible. Everyone should understand that if one is engaged in politics, represents public interests and speaks on behalf of other people, one should be at one´s best. If one is not satisfied with such publicity, one should find another sphere of activity to apply one´s efforts and energy," V.Lytvyn stressed.
The Head of the Parliament admitted that one law can hardly change the atmosphere in the country. "However, it should discipline public representatives in the state authorities, government agencies, and local self-government bodies," he stated. To change the atmosphere in the country, the level of political culture should be raised.
Commenting upon the implementation of the said Law in the Verkhovna Rada Secretariate, V.Lytvyn informed that it is regulated by the Decree of the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. "I do not think it is problematic," he stated. "The parliament is the most open public institute."
However, V.Lytvyn believes that provision of personal data of the People´s Deputies might become a debatable issue. "Such data should be submitted by the deputy concerned," he stated. However, the Head of the Parliament considers the order of providing information about deputy´s professional activity and its support to be absolutely clear.
